I classify myself as a narrative artist. When designing and constructing my art, I have a concept of what I am trying to express with the images in my artwork, delving into individual themes and images. The series have dealt with physical, spiritual, religion, politics, love, bondage, family, friends, reincarnation and my dreams. Producing art for 50 years has allowed me the freedom to experiment with numerous materials, techniques and the variety of themes that exist in my life. My three-dimensional and two-dimensional artwork has developed into utilizing a wide variety of materials and techniques. Some of the methods and materials that I use include cast metals, clay, fiberglass, fabric, cast paper, slumped glass, found objects, painting and drawing materials.
The series of my small landscape painting series happened because of my wife. Marie said she would like a landscape painting after I discussed a new project with her. I enjoy watching the clouds from our gallery windows every day. So, my first small painting of clouds and landscape started. When I finish a small painting, I sign them to Marie. I enjoy the difference in approaching my small paintings to working with my more personal narrative pieces.
My artwork has been shown in various types of shows: museums, municipal displays, universities, galleries, juried, invitational, group and solo shows. My artwork is included in numerous collections: municipal, university, galleries and private. Besides producing artwork for myself, I have completed commissions for universities, art centers and private collectors. I have two degrees in sculpture with minors in art history and design materials.
Currently, my studio is in Vienna, Illinois. The studio is 3,000 square foot space feet with a 20-foot ceiling and clerestory windows. I have a studio that supports creativity.
